What most
people take for chocolate is a mere trifle of sugar, artificial flavours
and milk powder but once you’ve tried seriously good chocolate, there’s no
turning back. Enter Coco
Chocolate where resident chocolatier Rebecca Kerswell has
married art with the finest organic cocoa and inspired ingredients to
create some sweet, sweet alchemy.
Her
sublime shop in Kirribilli has shelves heaving with heavenly offerings.
Chilli chocolate figs, cocoa dusted chocolate almonds and chunks of broken
chocolate sprinkled with fruits and spices sit alongside more delicate
pieces adorned with stunning edible artworks specially ‘printed’ in Paris
by a printing press filled with coloured cocoa butter. Steaming mugs of
hand tempered, hand flaked chocolate come in a variety of blends that are,
in Agenda’s opinion,
the best in Sydney. At the moment we’re loving the rose and black pepper
with wads of fresh cream – delish!
Coco
Chocolate is now hosting a series of Chocolate Connoisseur Evenings in
Kirribilli, where chocolate lovers will learn all about chocolate from bean
to bar, how to know what is ‘real’ chocolate and, just like a wine tasting,
indulge in a variety of samples from origins including Madagascar and the
Caribbean – comparing the distinctive flavours of each. Speaking of wine
tasting, you’ll also enjoy a glass of Mas
Amiel, a revered fortified granache that the French say is the
only wine that should accompany chocolate. And at only $40 for the
evening’s experience, the bounty of chocolate on offer is impressive, as
are the luscious leftovers to take home.
